I want to thank you for the opportunity to serve as your Councilman for Baltimore City’s 4th District. I truly appreciate the support that you have given during my tenure on the Council.

My mission on the Council has been to help improve our school system, ensure public safety in our neighborhoods, revitalize and enhance the quality of life in Baltimore. I will continue to work for you, and I ask for your help to make my vision a reality for this city.

Councilman Ken Harris

Biography

At an early age, Ken Harris learned the importance of public service and volunteerism in the Park Heights Community. Thanks to his mother Sylvia, Ken was introduced to a life of public service.

After graduating from Dunbar High School, Ken received a Bachelor of Science degree from Morgan State University. He went to work for Blue Cross and Blue Shield as a mail clerk and quickly worked his way up to the position of an Account Executive.

Ken is no stranger to the Baltimore community. He has served as President of the Leith Walk Elementary School PTA, President of the Glen Oaks Improvement Association, and is a former member of the Governor’s Task Force on Crime Control and Prevention. In addition, Ken served as a baseball coach in the Northwood Baseball Little League. Ken is a motivational speaker and organized a group called “Bridge to Manhood,” which focused on going into Baltimore City Schools and talking with youngsters about what they need to succeed. These important roles gave him the desire to expand his leadership into city government.

Since 1999, Ken Harris has served on the Baltimore City Council. He has championed causes important to the residents of his district and all the citizens of Baltimore. Most recently, Ken has aggressively pursued many issues pertaining to improve Baltimore’s school system, crime, and housing challenges.

Currently, Councilman Harris is serving on the following committees: Chair, Housing, Health and Human Services Subcommittee; Highways and Franchises Subcommittee; Vice Chair, Education; Land Use and Transportation; Urban Affairs and Aging.

In addition to his duties as Council member and Director of Business Services for Comcast, Councilman Harris is a devoted husband and father. He is married to Annette, an elementary school teacher. They are the proud parents of one daughter, Nicole and one son, Kenneth, Jr. He and his family are active members of Huber Memorial Church. The Harris’ family resides in the Bellona-Gittings community.

Education
Councilman Harris is a graduate of Dunbar H.S. and Morgan State University.

Family
Councilman Harris has been married to his wife Annette for 22 years. Their daughter Nicole graduated from college in May 2007. They also have a son, Kenneth Jr. who will be a senior in high school this fall. The Harris’ attend Huber Memorial Church in the Govans neighborhood of Baltimore City.
