Council President Announces Virtual City Council Meeting Details

Council President Announces Virtual City Council Meeting Details

BALTIMORE, MD (April 3, 2020) – Baltimore City Council President Brandon M. Scott announced details today regarding the first virtual meeting of the City Council, which will take place on Monday, April 6 at 5pm. The virtual meeting comes in response to the global COVID-19 pandemic and state-mandated stay-at-home order.

“As we all adapt to this new normal in an attempt to slow the spread of COVID-19, I am proud to announce the City Council will hold its first virtual meeting on Monday evening to continue the critically important business of the city,” said Council President Scott. “This City Council will pick up the important work of ensuring Baltimore residents and businesses, especially our most vulnerable, are protected and supported during and after this global public health emergency.”

Members of the City Council will attend the meeting virtually using the WebEx platform. The meeting will be broadcasted live on CharmTV, where members of the public and press can watch the meeting. Please note that the Clarence “Du” Burns Council Chambers at City Hall will be closed to the public.

“We must also remember that we are battling two public health crises in this city: COVID-19 and gun violence. This ongoing epidemic cannot go unaddressed any longer and we must simultaneously work toward a cure for both,” continued Scott. "Baltimore is a resilient city. While the weeks and months ahead are uncertain, I am fully confident in our ability to put measures in place now that allow us to bounce back stronger than before.”

Residents and members of the press are encouraged to stream the April 6, 2020 City Council Meeting at 5PM on CharmTV’s cable channel (Channel 25/1085HD) and online at http://charmtvbaltimore.com/watch-live.

As an additional expansion of access and transparency to Council Meetings, people without access to television or the internet can join the meeting for the first time by phone using the information below:

Number: (443) 984-1696

Access Code: 0245337

This is the first City Council Meeting since President Scott cancelled all meetings and hearings until at least April 6, 2020. This Council Meeting will be modeled after the last two virtual meetings of the Board of Estimates, technology which has been troubleshooted over the past month by the City Council President’s Office.

The City Council President’s Office will continue to troubleshoot technology for upcoming City Council hearings to allow for virtual public participation. Details for virtual City Council hearings will be announced in the coming weeks.

Baltimoreans can access an archive of public meetings, including City Council meetings, hearings, and Board of Estimates meetings, on CharmTV’s YouTube page and the Council President’s Facebook page.
