"Investing Where Baltimore Lives"
August 17, 2007

Dear Friends:

I have received such positive feedback about the Rawlings-Blake Roll Call over the past several months, since the weekly electronic newsletter was launched. Today, I am proud to announce that a printed version of the Rawlings-Blake Roll Call is now available, featuring valuable resources and information for Baltimore residents to remain in touch and engaged in their legislative process. Mindful of the fact that many residents do not have access to the Internet, we are proud to offer a printed, extended version which is now ready for distribution.

The newsletter is ten pages in length, and includes a helpful insert featuring each Council member’s photo, contact information, committees, and the neighborhoods he or she serves. It contains articles similar to what you might find each week in the electronic version of the Rawlings-Blake Roll Call, but encompasses the past several months of Council activity and reports on the most significant news.

I have served on the City Council for twelve years, and during that time, have been honored to serve the people of Baltimore in the legislative role. As the legislative body of Baltimore, the City Council serves a very different function than that of the Executive branch. The legislators represent the voice of the people. We hear that voice every day from our constituents, and are tuned into the issues that concern you. We are usually a constituent’s first contact when a concern arises in their neighborhood. That is how it should be, and neither I nor my colleagues take for granted or shrink from that responsibility.

Keeping the public informed about their government officials’ activities is a vital part of our job. That is why this newsletter serves such a valuable purpose. The newsletters are available at City Hall, and various City agencies and centers throughout Baltimore. We will post a complete list of pick-up locations on our website at www.baltimorecitycouncil.com. If you have a public place that might serve as an effective location to feature the Rawlings-Blake Roll Call, please let us know by replying to this email. Thank you for your continued interest in the news of the Baltimore City Council.

The Station North Thrift Store

The Station North Thrift Store was established in 2002 to be a hub of blessing for the community of Station North and East Baltimore. For many people who live in the area, it is difficult to find quality items at great prices. Customers range from single moms, to low income senior citizens, to recently released men looking for clothes for a job interview, to the student artist looking for new ways to express themselves. The store features quality items like clothing, beautiful jewelry and furniture at low, low prices. All Station North Thrift Store proceeds go to support Adopt A Block and its various programs serving the citizens of Baltimore. Purchases and donations of quality clothing, furniture and other items help Baltimore residents in need.

Adopt A Block, Inc., is a 501(c)3 charitable organization, operating as a non-profit coalition composed of local churches, City Police, City Government, local businesses, community associations, social service and health agencies, and community residents. Their goal is to work together to recover our city from poverty, hopelessness, crime and drugs, block by block. Adopt A Block, Inc., has been working with many supportive services, direct services and government agencies since 1995 on various projects including:
• Community Service Projects in East Baltimore
• Summer Block Party Program
• Recreation Programs for Children – Christian Youth Athletics
• Ride The Reading Train Literacy Program
