"Investing Where Baltimore Lives" |
August 9, 2007 |
Dear Friends:
Last Tuesday, over 30 neighborhoods all over Baltimore held events for National Night Out, taking the initiative to partner with their police districts and work on strategies to safeguard their neighbors. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to visit a series of the National Night Out events across the City – from Hilltop to Charles Village, and from Reservoir Hill to Douglass High School.
I was impressed with the turnout: a number of these events were very well attended, as Baltimore residents braved the extreme summer heat to join their neighbors and City police on National Night Out.

Baltimore City Police officers were on hand giving neighbors crime and drug prevention tips and also pitching in with refreshments and other activities. It was very good to see these police-community partnerships growing around the City, and I believe that we can build on these relationships. Many city residents may not know that Baltimore Police districts have Community Relations units that meet regularly to share information and address citizen concerns. I urge all City residents to contact their Police District's Community Relations unit to stay informed and maintain that crucial connection to the police officers that serve them. Building solid relationships with law enforcement is the single most effective action we can take to keep Baltimore’s neighborhoods healthy and safe.
