BALTIMORE, MD – City Council President Bernard C. “Jack” Young will introduce a resolution calling for November 2 to be recognized as an annual citywide day of service and reflection in honor of former Mayor William Donald Schaefer. The former mayor, who was born on Nov. 2, 1921, passed away on Monday, April 18, 2011.

The resolution – "Do it Now" Day in Baltimore City – will pay tribute to a man who dedicated his life to improving his beloved City of Baltimore and working for all its residents, Council President Young said.

“Former Mayor Schaefer for so long poured his entire heart and soul into uplifting Baltimore,” Council President Young said. “To be able to turn his birthday into a citywide day of service to the city he loved more than anything in this world is a perfect tribute.”

Council President Young’s resolution will be introduced on May 2, 2011 during the City Council’s next regularly scheduled meeting.
