Show Your Softer Side to Our Loyal Pets

Dear Baltimoreans,

Many of us can recall with joy the loving ways of our favorite pet. Our loyal friends brighten our days and show us unconditional love. These creatures are more than just furry animals; they are cherished members of our families.

Click on the poster above to get more information on the Mayor's Anti-Animal Abuse Advisory Commission.

But sadly, not everyone shares these same feelings. For too many people, dogs and cats are targets rather than objects of affection. This is simply disgusting and wrong.

On Thursday at 9:30 a.m., at City Hall, I’ll join Mayor Stephanie Rawlings-Blake, members of her Anti-Animal Abuse Advisory Commission and animal lovers of all stripes to help unveil an anti-animal cruelty campaign that implores Baltimoreans to “Show Your Soft Side” toward cats and dogs.

This campaign, which is supported by some superstar professional athletes like the Orioles’ Adam Jones, the Ravens’ Jarret Johnson and Mixed Martial Arts fighter John Rallo, has the ability to help save the lives of countless cats and dogs.

We’ve all seen the reports of animals that have suffered at the hands of cruel adults and children. For the past few years, a host of dedicated animal lovers have worked to erase animal abuse and educate the public about the signs of animal cruelty.

The “Show Your Soft Side” campaign will relay one simple message: “only a punk would hurt a cat or dog.”
