Request for State Action - Healthy Maryland Initiative

FOR the purpose of expressing support for increasing the state cigarette tax by $1 per pack,

along with a similar increase to the tax on other tobacco products, with the revenue from these

tax increases to fund: the state tobacco control program; the state health improvement process

and other community based health initiatives including those that address childhood obesity or

long term care for seniors; and improved access to health care services for Maryland families.

FOR the purpose of inviting representatives from the State Department of Assessments and

Taxation’s Baltimore City office to appear before the Council to discuss the process by which

properties in Baltimore were reassessed for tax purposes, and to explain what rights

homeowners have if they believe these assessments are not correct.

Informational Hearing - College Access for Baltimore City’s School Students

FOR the purpose of inviting representatives from Baltimore City Public Schools and the

CollegeBound Foundation to appear before the Council to discuss ways to raise awareness of

the resources available to increase college access for Baltimore City’s school students.

Quarterly Budget Briefings

FOR the purpose of calling on the Chief of the Finance Department’s Bureau of Budget and

Management Research to brief the City Council on how the City’s actual finances compare to

its budgeted projections in a timely manner after the close of each quarter in the City’s fiscal

year.

Planned Unit Development - Amending Ordinance 11-571

FOR the purpose of amending Ordinance 11-571 to add certain provisions that were

inadvertently omitted; and providing for a special effective date.

Informational Hearing - Local, Small, and Disadvantaged Business Purchasing

Preferences for Baltimore

FOR the purpose of inviting representatives from City agencies concerned with purchasing

and economic development to appear before the Council to discuss how the City can best

leverage its purchasing expenditures to encourage the growth of local, small, and

disadvantaged businesses.
