Departure leaves vacancy in 11th District

SEPTEMBER 2, 2014 - The Baltimore City Council, in accordance with City Council Rule 5-11 and Baltimore City Charter Article III, § 6, is preparing to fill a vacancy in the 11th Council District. All interested citizens are encouraged to participate in the process.

In accordance with the Charter and City Council Rules, City Council President Bernard C. "Jack" Young will appoint a nominating committee within the next week. This committee will represent a broad cross-section of the 11th District and include community association leadership, business and business association leadership, council members from adjacent council districts, and other individuals that have a broad acquaintance with the 11th District.

The nominating committee will be tasked with recommending an individual to the City Council to fill the remainder of the current term. The committee will convene at a Public Hearing to discuss the qualities and criteria of filling a council vacancy and thoroughly review the qualifications the candidates that apply to fill the vacancy. Then, the committee will report its findings at a City Council Meeting for approval by the remaining City Council membership.
